A couple of years ago a separate DAC was declared dead and buried thanks to considerable improvements in CDPs. Great response to this thread clearly shows that there IS a new trend - adding a DAC to DVD players. Seems a good idea, especially if you already have a need for minidisk or CD-R. I see that GaryG uses a mini-disk box to do the A/D conversion, of analogue pre-out from his AV processor, in order to keep the Dax Decade in play as dac. Incidentally, for AV purposes, I connect the analogue pre-out from AV amp into the stereo amp. No doubt its more than theatre and suspension of disbelief: I'll enjoy the music and let the techies do the talk. Having had delightful diversion with Arcam integrated CDP, with Meridian CD combos, I now walk serenely along the dac side, with supposedly no/low jitter and no pre-amp - look no hands!! So too was the 'how good is the pre-amp in AV receiver' stuff. See for blub, andĪs mentioned elsewhere, I was tempted to walk on the dac side by several on AVF, which also took in talk of transports, jitter and SPDIF coding in the digital connect. This must be the place to highlight the musical pleasure of the AudioSynthesis Dax Decade as a dac and pre-amp.
